KUSU CONNECTION - SCHOOL VISITS
We know that many young people of school age regard paid employment as the only option open to them when they leave school. Our aim is to present a university education as being a genuine alternative.
KUSU offers invaluable access to a university without which, many students find it difficult to imagine student life or how they could be a part of it. These 'taster' days effectively demonstrate that anybody can opt to come to university and that there are alternative pathways to entering higher education.
What do visit days involve?
Experienced members of KUSU's Independent Advice Unit lead a timetable of dynamic and interactive workshops; the aim of these sessions is to break down the percieved stereotypes that many school students hold.
Participants gain an insight into 'student life' via the tour of campus, which give sthem the opportunity to visit various departments and student accomodation. They are accompanied by undergraduate students who are available to answer any questions the students may have.
Pupils are also given a 'taster' lecture, either within the Students' Union or in one of the university's lecture theatres. Topics include Forensic Science, Criminology and Business Studies, but if your school has a particular discipline that they wish to explore then we will make every effort to accomodate this and organise a lecture accordingly.
