Recognising Achievement

Over the coming months KUSU and Keele University are working on new ways to recognise your achievements. These include internal awards, such as the VE and KUSU Awards and larger national projects such as the Higher Education Achievement Report that Keele is piloting.

Keep your eyes peeled for more information and we’ll keep this page up to date as and when we find out more!

Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR)

To assist with establishing and recognising the skills individuals acquire from their non-academic time at University is the Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR), which for 2012 entrants is piloted in a select number of HE institutions, one of which is Keele.

The scheme verifies the extra-curriculum activities undertaken by students during their time at the university and once graduated, provides a complete ‘HEAR’ that shows the activities undertaken.  Only certain activities are ‘HEAR recordable’ as they need to be verifiable by the institution and have a minimum criteria for each that needs to be achieved.

Activities that are not recorded on the HEAR can be incorporated elsewhere into C.Vs and cover letters, so look out for workshops in semester two that show students how to highlight the skills they have and market their employability.

HEAR information is still changing and being refined, so early 2012 will see a launch with information and information on the other interactive services where students can construct their own portfolio to remember all the skills, experiences and qualities they have gained at Keele.

VE Awards

VE @ Keele delivers an award scheme that recognises the hard work that students contribute. The awards: are Bronze- 25 hours, Silver- 50 hours, Gold 75 hours and Platinum- 100+ hours. These awards help you to reflect and learn from your volunteer experience to make it more worthwhile. One off volunteering events are also available so there is no commitment to long term projects if you still want to get involved. Training is available to volunteers;the schedule includes Health and Safety in the Work Place and Fundraising Skills.
