Hardship Funds & Grants

There are services available if you are struggling financially during your time as a student.

Keele University Student Funding Office

Staff in the Student Funding Office can offer advice on sources of student funding and general budgeting advice around expenditure such as tuition fees and accommodation.  They can also advise on managing income from sources such as grants, loans, part-time work, social security payment and banks.  They also give information about the bursaries and scholarships available to some students, and administer a small emergeny loans fund.

The Student Funding Support Officer is responsible for the administration of the money from the Access to Learning Fund and will give advice and guidance about applying for additional money from the fund if you are experiencing financial hardship.

NHS Hardship Grant - Medical and Dental Students Only

If you are a medical or dental student that has exhausted all other sources of financial help, and still require additional help, you may be eligible for an NHS Hardship Grant.  All medical and dental students who are holders of income-assessed NHS Bursaries (except those holding fees only awards), are eligible.
Payments will not be made to you if you have chosen not to take up your full student loan and any Access to Learning Fund entitlement.

Enclose details of your personal financial circumstances and also documentary evidence that you have applied for a student loan and Access to Learning Funds.

Keele Graduate Bursaries

Financial help for 2010 Keele graduates wishing to undertake a full-time Master's programme at Keele

A discount of £1,000 for all UK/EU and international students graduating from a first degree programme this year and who stay on full-time to undertake a Master's programme at Keele.

The Keele Graduate Bursaries are available for all taught postgraduate courses other than those where financial support is already available - such as the Postgraduate Certificate in Education, Social Work or certain courses where the student fee is directly funded by the National Health Service.

There are no additional forms or paperwork. The £1,000 will be deducted from the second payment instalment of postgraduate tuition fees.

Royal Merchant Navy School Foundation

The RMNSF which is keen to publicise its beneficiary fund which has been extended to be available to students in tertiary education whose parents have been in the Merchant Navy.

The Colt Foundation - Grants made to high quality research projects in the field of occupational and environmental health, particularly those aimed at illness arising from conditions at the work place.  Also make grants to PhD students whose subject is relevant to this field of medicine.

The Independent Advice Unit

The Advice Unit can also advice on money matters such as loans, budgeting, debt etc we also administer a small, short term, emergency fund known as the Lindsay Loan Fund contact us to find out more about how we can help with your money matters!
