A Day In The Life Of VP (Sport And Fitness)

The diary of Adam Priston.
Firstly no day is the same, so this is just an ideal of how a ‘typical’ day MIGHT go. In reality it is probably nothing like this and even if I planned it to be something would pop up and change it all.
10am: Get in and grab a coffee from Barista, then check my emails, diary, Facebook etc and see what’s going on. Quick ring over to the AU to see if they need me for anything.
11am: Work on an upcoming event, perhaps a Dodgeball tournament is coming up. Coordinating 100 or so students into a tournament isn’t always easy – designing posters, creating Facebook events and whatever other publicity needs doing takes time, and then there’s teams that drop out, loads of questions and multiple people to liaise with just to get it ready to go. This usually takes a couple of hours a day over the course of the week to make sure it will be a success.
1pm: What should be lunch is usually a sandwich at the desk replying to more emails.
1.30pm: Meeting prep – reading papers and making sure I know what’s going on. These meetings could be anything from an internal Staffing meeting through to University Senate.
2pm: Meeting. An hour is optimistic here, but there are quite a few meetings during the week. From University committees and sports meetings to internal finance or staffing meetings each is important to stay on top of what is happening within Keele and get yourself heard.
2.45pm: Catch up with the other Sabbs. With different portfolios it can be easy to forget you are part of a team so we make sure we keep up to date with what each other are doing, support our individual campaigns/events and have a coherent direction on the bigger issues.
3.30pm: Pop over to the AU office, catch up on what they are doing and offer any support. We have been working quite closely this year towards a better sport provision in the future.
4:30pm: Go home.
This is such a structured day in comparison to the reality, but I guess it averages out pretty similarly eventually. A lot of my time has been spent working with the AU and the University in developing the future of sport through the AU/KUSU collaboration, looking at ways it will benefit both the AU and the wider body in accessing sport.
Not every day is 10am-4:30pm or Monday-Friday, there’s events and open days needing us at the weekend, UGMs and freshers weeks where we are here until gone 10pm.
With the union taking on AU activity, the role is looking to be more concise and focused on sport at all levels. If you have any questions about the role just ask!
